Captured by the Solar Orbiter from a distance of roughly 75 million kilometers, this breathtaking image is a mosaic of 25 individual images taken on March 7 2022 by the high-resolution telescope of the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) instrument.

Taken at a wavelength of 17 nanometers, in the extreme ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum, this image reveals the Sun's upper atmosphere, the corona, which reaches temperatures of around a million degrees Celsius.

This high-resolution image, consisting of over 83 million pixels in a 9148 x 9112 pixel grid, is the most detailed view of the Sun’s full disc and outer atmosphere ever taken. That’s a resolution 10 times better than a 4K TV screen display. For perspective, an image of Earth is included at the 2 o’clock position, showcasing the immense scale of our celestial neighbor.
