What is The Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635)?

Located 8,000 light-years away, this emission nebula lies near the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" in the nebula is created by the powerful stellar wind from a massive young star, SAO 20575 (BD+60°2522), which shines at a magnitude of 8.7.

The nebula's fascinating visual is enhanced by a giant molecular cloud nearby, which contains the expansion of the bubble while being excited by the hot central star, giving it a glowing appearance. This celestial wonder was first discovered in 1787 by William Herschel. The central star, BD+60°2522, is estimated to have a mass of about 44 times that of our Sun.
