Does Marcin think of himself as a photographer? Maybe a little. For a while now.

But more than that, he’s someone who looks for things most people miss. Not necessarily the rarest things — just the ones we tend to overlook. Whether it’s a tiny detail on a beetle’s eye or a whole galaxy floating quietly in deep space, he sees stories in them. And once you notice them, you can’t look away.

Sometimes it’s a nebula reshaped by the gravity of a neighboring star, folding and stretching like something alive. Other times, it’s a wasp queen laying eggs in the early light, doing what she must for the next generation. There’s beauty in both. You just have to slow down enough to notice.

That’s what led Marcin to astrophotography. And later, to macro.

He started small — literally — with a kid’s telescope made of plastic, the kind called “AstroCabinet 90.” But even back then, the goal was clear: look closer, aim higher. Today, his deep-sky mosaics show distant nebulas in rich, sharp detail. You could hang them on a wall and get lost for hours.

He’s always chasing the darkest skies he can find — to see what’s really out there. But even when he’s standing under the stars, he hasn’t forgotten the world beneath his feet. The tiny ones, the overlooked ones. The beetles, the spiders, the wasps. They’re just as full of mystery.

Marcin Hałaczkiewicz - Corona Australis: Bring a Southern Crown of Stardust Into Your Space

Transform any room with this luminous portrait of the Corona Australis Molecular Cloud—one of the closest and most active stellar nurseries to Earth.

    About Corona Australis

Corona Australis (Latin for “Southern Crown”) hosts a 60-light-year-long complex of dust and gas, making it one of the nearest and richest star-forming regions. Blue hues arise as starlight bounces off microscopic dust grains, while patches of amber emission mark energized hydrogen clouds. The nebula’s variability creates a living sky painting that changes over months as infant stars flicker within the gloom.

Marcin's perspective on an iconic object

Everyone sees something different in this picture painted by the Universe itself. Some say it’s a monkey (Marcin’s in that camp), others swear it’s an anteater.

Whatever works for you. Whatever you need. When faced with this much beauty, you can’t help but wonder just how good the Universe really is with a brush.

What makes this region so captivating is not just the color — it’s the sheer variety.

    • Galaxies? ✅
    • Globular clusters? ✅
    • Young stars bursting into life in Herbig-Haro regions? ✅.
    • Blue reflection nebulae, thick clouds of interstellar dust? All here. All real.

The more we study this corner of the sky, the more we uncover — and yet, the more it reminds us how much still lies beyond our grasp.

The cosmic monkey is  probably chuckling somewhere among the stars, seeing how sure we are that we understand it all.
