Nice, but...
Reasonably happy with my purchase.
It seems to be quality paper, reminding me of photo paper.
However, I've bought an enlarged version (so not the smallest size) and it seems that the picture is simply stretched to fit the larger dimensions. As a result the pixels seem a bit stretched as well.
You won't notice from a distance, but looking close it is quite clear.
Not sure if the original picture has a certain resolution limit or if the printer has trouble printing at such detail.
Since I purchased it with a discount I can life with this, but for full price I would somehow expect more detail even on the largest size available.
Shipping etc was excellent, with regular updates.
Astrography
Hi Jur,
Thank you for your honest feedback—it’s always helpful to hear how the work resonates in the real world. Let me share a bit about why this piece (and many deep-space images) has these inherent limits.
The detail in astrophotography isn’t just about cameras or printers—it’s governed by physics. When capturing objects millions of light-years away, Earth’s atmosphere literally blurs the light. This is called “astronomical seeing,” and even under perfect conditions, it acts like a soft filter. Most telescopes struggle to resolve details finer than 2–2.5 arcseconds (a tiny angular measurement) due to this. The data used here actually hits 1.5 arcseconds, which is sharper than average—think of it like zooming in on a distant streetlamp through heat waves.
When enlarging, I aim to balance sharpness with the image’s natural “grain.” Stretching pixels isn’t ideal, but it’s sometimes the only way to honor the composition without inventing details that don’t exist in the original data. The printer can handle more, but the universe only gives us so much to work with.
I completely understand your perspective, though. These prints aren’t just decor—they’re snapshots of real data, flaws and all. If you’re curious, I’d be happy to recommend other works with coarser scales that might feel more natural at larger sizes.
Thanks again for your support and thoughtful critique. It’s customers like you who remind me why this niche—where science meets art—is so worth pursuing.
Best,
