Gerald Rhemann is an accomplished astrophotographer who began his journey in 1987, inspired by Halley's Comet. Rhemann specializes in wide-field photography, particularly comet photography, and has developed sophisticated processing techniques to capture both comets and surrounding stars in focus.

He photographs under the clear skies of the Austrian Alps and the deserts of Namibia.

Over the years, Rhemann has become one of the best astrophotographers globally. His images are frequently published in books, magazines, and NASA websites. They have won also several awards. In 2022 he was the overall winner of the "Astronomy Photographer of the Year" organized by the Royal Greenwich Observatory.

It was a privilege that Steven Hawking personally decided to print one of his comet pictures in his book “George’s Secret Key to the Universe”.

Own a Moment of Cosmic History: Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks Wall Art by Gerald Rhemann

Picture this: a cosmic phenomenon so rare that most people will never witness it in their lifetime. On June 1st, 2024, from the pristine darkness of Namibia's desert skies, something extraordinary unfolded—Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks revealed its mysterious antitail.

This isn't just another space photograph. This is your window into one of astronomy's most elusive spectacles, captured by Gerald Rhemann—the 2022 Astronomy Photographer of the Year winner whose work graces NASA websites and Steven Hawking's personal book collection.

When the Universe Shows You Its Hidden Magic

This image - taken with two different telescopes remotely - immortalizes the famed Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks as it blazed through our solar system. It reveals a stunningly rare phenomenon—a luminous, fan-shaped "antitail"—an optical marvel that few ever get to witness, let alone display in their own space.

Gerald Rhemann has spent over 35 years chasing comets across three continents, from Austria's Alps to Namibia's pristine deserts. His dedication led him to witness something truly special: the impressive antitail of the "Devil Comet"—a razor-sharp spike of light pointing directly toward the Sun, defying everything you'd expect from a comet's behavior.

Using two different telescopes positioned at Farm Tivoli and Farm Hakos in Namibia—two of the world's top 10 astronomical locations—Rhemann captured this once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event when Earth passed through the comet's orbital plane, creating this breathtaking optical phenomenon.
