    Chris is an English astrophotographer whose cosmic passion began at an early age. At about 13, he bought his first telescope, sparking a lifelong obsession with astrophotography. He earned a degree in Astrophysics from Keele University, frequently spending nights in the university observatory. When weather permits, he captures images from his home observatory in rural Shropshire and uses remote telescopes in places like Chile and Australia.

    Chris has received numerous accolades, including NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD), Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day (AAPOD), and several Astrobin Top Picks. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS). Outside astronomy, Chris is passionate about golf and aviation, working day-to-day as a cargo pilot. He also enjoys electronic music and runs a small business producing modular synthesizers.

    The Majesty of the Seven Sisters

    The Pleiades contains over 1,000 stars, though it is best known for its seven brightest members, often referred to as the Seven Sisters. These young, hot, blue stars are thought to have formed within the last 100 million years. Surrounding these bright stars is an abundance of interstellar dust, once thought to originate from their formation, but is now considered likely to be an unrelated dust cloud in the interstellar medium through which the cluster is currently passing.

    This image reveals not only the Pleiades in all their glory but also the intricate filaments of surrounding interstellar dust that are often invisible in a lot of other images.
