After 20 years of peering down a microscope as a Surgical Pathologist, Logan turned his gaze skyward, discovering a passion for astrophotography in 2019. He images the amazing Deep Sky objects of the Southern Hemisphere from his roll-off-roof observatory at home in New Zealand. More recently he has also been imaging with a rig in southern Spain to expand his reach into the Northern Hemisphere.

Logan collaborates with two international groups of amateur astrophotographers; one deticated to the searching for yet undiscovered nebulae; and the other group carrying out projects consisting of hundreds of hours of integration time to reveal hidden or rarely imaged features of known targets.

Dive into the beauty of WR134 by Logan Carpenter

Unveil the cosmic splendor of Logan Carpenter's W134 Poster, featuring the captivating WR134, a distinguished Wolf-Rayet star encircled by a luminous nebula of ionized oxygen gas. This unique C-type nebula displays clumpy and disrupted shells, a striking signature of these massive stellar phenomena.

WR134, along with the nearby WR135, is located within a vast shell of hydrogen thought to have been expelled during its earlier O-star phase.

Situated about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation of Cygnus, classic Wolf-Rayet stars like WR134 are evolved, massive stars that have shed their outer hydrogen layers and are fuzing helium into heavier elements in their cores. The ejected material forms bubble-like nebulae, propelled by strong stellar winds and ionized by the central star.

As many of the features of the OIII shell are quite faint, 31hrs of the 53hrs 48mins total integration time was dedicated to the OIII filter. Although captured with SHO filters, this target is presented in an HOO style palette with RGB stars.
