A psychologist and educator by profession, has been engaged in astrophotography since 2020, combining science, art, and travel. She has photographed, among others, the Milky Way in Europe and Hawaii, the aurora borealis in Norway and Iceland, a total solar eclipse in the USA, and southern sky objects in Namibia.

She develops projects, publishes her photographs in astronomical magazines, and conducts workshops and lectures. Her work has been distinguished twice within NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) project (2021 and 2025).

The image shows the aurora borealis above the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland. The phenomenon was captured during a strong geomagnetic storm, when the aurora covered most of the northern sky.

    Framing and Composition Context

The frame was composed vertically to include both the auroral structures and the rocky coastline with a distinctive solitary rock in the ocean. The photograph was created as a three-panel mosaic, allowing for a wide field of view and capturing the variation in auroral shapes and intensity.

    Image Capture Process

The image was taken using a static photographic setup. Each panel was exposed for 8 seconds, enabling detailed capture of the auroral structures without excessive motion blur. The final composition and post-processing were completed in Photoshop.

    Location and Observing Conditions

The photograph was taken in November 2021 on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland.
Observing conditions were excellent — with no cloud cover, low humidity, and stable temperature throughout the night. Many observers gathered at the viewpoint to watch this rare and impressive event. The aurora was already visible upon arrival in Iceland and continued to intensify over the following hours until it spread across the entire sky.
