Rod has also been awarded distinctions in prestigious competitions such APP, AstroCamera and the highly prestigious Astronomy Photographer of the Year (APY16). Notable work like “Eruption of Eternity” (Carina Nebula) is currently on display at the Royal Greenwich Museum in London.

    Rod is known for his innovative use of narrowband imaging, meticulous post-processing techniques, and a passion for pushing the limits of his equipment. His transition into using PixInsight marked a turning point in refining his skills, allowing him to create striking images with an emphasis on detail, color, and the hidden structures of deep space.

    Located approximately 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus, this nebula is a bustling region filled with glowing gas, dark dust lanes, and young stars, making it a captivating subject for both amateur and professional astronomers alike.

    Within this cosmic masterpiece lies Thackeray’s Globules, dense molecular clouds that play a crucial role in studying star formation.     In the end, this image became a symbol of my perseverance and dedication to capturing intricate deep-sky objects, pushing both my equipment and my skills to their limits. I had also just learned new techniques from a fellow astrophotographer which I was keen to use - Rod
