Waves of Time - The Dragon's Heart (RCW 114) Poster

Dive into the depths of the universe with Rod Prazeres' captivating poster, "Waves of Time - The Dragon's Heart (RCW 114)." This stunning visual representation of a rarely imaged supernova remnant invites you to explore the intricate beauty of cosmic forces at play, offering a unique glimpse into the heart of our galaxy.

The Enigmatic Story of RCW 114

Known as the Dragon’s Heart, RCW 114 is a supernova remnant located in the southern constellation Ara. Spanning approximately 100 light-years across, this ancient explosion has left behind mesmerizing displays of intricate waves and filaments.

These delicate patterns were sculpted by the shockwave from the supernova as it collided with interstellar gas, creating a breathtaking cosmic artwork that captures the dynamic forces shaping our universe.

What sets RCW 114 apart is its weak OIII emission, indicating it was formed by a relatively weak supernova. This rarity makes it a coveted target for astrophotographers, and Rod Prazeres dedicated an impressive 111 hours of integration to capture this magnificent nebula.

The resulting four-panel mosaic showcases the vast and complex structure of this remnant in incredible detail, with narrowband stars enhancing its otherworldly allure.

I was inspired to tackle this target because it’s not commonly captured, and I wanted to create something unique. The sheer size and detail of the final image make it one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever completed - Rod
